This DVD is divided into 3 parts, part 1 includes scenes from the Mallorca Railway main line from Palma to Inca plus the branches to Sa Pobla & Manacor. The metre gauge line was electrified in 2011 between Palma and Enllac, the branches from here to Sa Pobla and Manacor remaining diesel operated. Servais Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) took over the line in 1994 and now runs the service on behalf of Transportes de les Illes Balear (TIB). SFM also operates the Palma Metro, line M1 runs from Palma to the University and is underground except for a short section at Son Sardina where there is interchange with the Soller Railway. Line M2 is an all stations short working on the main line between Palma and Marratxi. Part 2 features the Soller Railway, this line is 3ft. gauge and connects Palma with Soller. The line was opened in 1912 and electrified in 1929, the 4 original rail motor coaches are still in daily service on this scenic line which tunnels through the Serra d'Alfabia mountain range to reach Soller. Part 3, The Soller Tramway was opened in 1913 and connects the town of Soller to Port de Soller a distance of 4.9km. The 3 motor trams that opened the line are still in service today and can be seen in this video together with several ex Lisbon trams plus open 4 wheel trailers and some modern bogie trailers. The tramway is also built to 3ft. gauge. Total running time 75 minutes, wide screen PAL (UK) system, no commentary, subtitles. Enjoy the sights & sounds of rails through Mallorca.
