The New Routemaster is the result of the design competition held by Transport for London in 2008 at the request of Boris Johnson, mayor of London. Over 700 entries were received and the project was handed to Thomas Heatherwick Design Consultants who produced the final design. Wrightbus of Ballymena in Northern Ireland won the contract to build the buses in early 2010 and the first prototype, LT1, was launched in December 2011. 7 more prototypes followed in 2012 and entered service on route 38. Following testing 600 more buses were ordered by TfL and production started in March 2013. This DVD shows the buses in service on routes 8,9,10,11,24,38,148 and 390 reflecting the situation in September 2014. Other hybrid buses are also featured aswell as buses using alternative fuels such as hydrogen and battery electric power. Subtitles, no commentary, enjoy the sights & sounds of buses in London. Wide screen, PAL UK system, total running time 75 minutes.
