Public transport in Edinburgh is dominated by the Lothian Buses group, which is a council owned company, 91% of the shares are owned by Edinburgh City Council, the remainder by Midlothian, West Lothian and East Lothian councils. Edinburgh City Council is also the owner of Edinburgh Trams, the line from the airport is currently being extended from the city centre to Newhaven via Leith, this extension is scheduled to open in 2023. Lothian Buses operate routes throughout the city, there are also subsidiaries Lothian Country, which operates routes to the west of the city, and East Coast Buses, which operates routes to the east as far as North Berwick and Dunbar. Lothian Buses also operate many of the sightseeing tour buses and also has a coach division. This video features buses and trams in action in the city centre and suburbs, including Leith, Portobello and Newhaven. Apart from Lothian Buses, First Scotland East, Stagecoach and Borders Buses also operate into Edinburgh.
